Sunglasses, love them or hate them, you’ll never deny they are everywhere. From celebrities to energetic athletes, to the neighbours next door, and even you, sunglasses are probably part of the daily repertoire.
Driving? Need sunglasses? Checked.
Running in the afternoon? Need sunglasses? Checked.
Making a fashion statement? Checked.
Hiding your eyes? Engaging in nefarious activities and don’t want to be recognized? Need a pair of shades? Checked.
In all probability, among those who own sunglasses, one pair is never enough. Perhaps you need a pair in the car. Another pair at home, and yet another pair in your bag – just in case. Three pairs of sunglasses is probably a very modest collection.
According to the Guinness World Record, a woman from Vancouver, Canada holds the title to owning the largest collection of sunglasses in the world. Lori-Ann Keenan currently has 3000 pairs of sunglasses to her name. And she is set to continue to acquire more pairs to her collections. Prior to that, the record went to Betty Webster of Hawaii who owns 1506 pairs.
By comparison, Khloe Kardashian, reality TV star and model reported owns a paltry 200 pairs of shades.
However, the Guinness World record aside, Elton John reportedly owns a lot more pairs of sunglasses. How many? 250,000 pairs! Yup, your read that right. That’s a lot of shades for a person with only two eyes. In 2010, he told BBC Radio: “I don’t have a iPod or a mobile phone or a computer. I do have a quarter of a million pairs of sunglasses but I don’t even have a mobile phone!”
But humans are not the only ones who wear sunglasses. Meet British pooch, Princess Cleopatra Superchill. Her owner, Anthony Walsh, has reportedly spent a whopping £40,000 on her and among the things she owns, is a £1500 pram and 175 pairs of sunglasses! Her Instagram handle is @woof_woof_cleo.
Not to be outdone, one feline by the name of Bagel, reportedly owns 600 pairs of sunglasses! Bagel was born without eyelids and is thus unable to produce tears. To protect her eyes, owner Karen McGill decided that sunglasses will protect Bagel’s eyes. Today, Bagel is an Internet star has a following of 640,000 fans on Instagram.
