Sunday Shades at the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon

Sunday Shades at the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon

From 14 to 17 January 2026, we packed our frames, loaded our gear, and flew to Hong Kong, stepping straight into one of Asia’s most electrifying race weekends. The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon at Kai Tak Arena isn’t just a race — it’s a pulse point. Streets, skyscrapers, and Victoria Harbour vibrate with energy, and this year, we were in the middle of it.

Perfect running weather greeted us. Cool mornings between 17–21°C, clear skies, and crisp winter light that sharpens every edge. Along the promenade, runners jogged, stretched, and shared quiet moments of focus. Weather like that doesn’t just aid performance — it creates memories that linger long after the medal is hung and the soreness fades.

The race pack collection impressed us immediately. Spacious, organized, and thoughtful, it never felt chaotic despite the crowd. People had time to browse, try gear, ask questions, or just talk — that’s where the magic often begins, before the gun even fires.

At our Sunday Shades booth, the energy was tangible. Meeting runners who already knew our brand was a highlight. Some came straight over like it was on their checklist:

“I’ve been following you for months.”
“I’ve been meaning to try these.”
“I wanted to test the fit before race day.”

Moments like these are deeply personal. Behind every frame is countless hours of design and testing. Seeing someone connect with that work, physically and emotionally, is why we keep showing up.

The first try-on is always a quiet ritual.
Lift the frame, tilt the head, adjust the nose bridge, jog in place. Then the subtle nod, the smile, the quiet exhale that says:

“This works. This feels right.”

Lightness, secure fit, clarity — it hits immediately. Revealing that Sunday Shades is a Singaporean brand added another layer of excitement. The reactions were priceless — surprise, curiosity, and genuine admiration. Conversations naturally sparked around Asian-fit design, nose bridge precision, humidity testing, and why eyewear built for our region just makes sense.

Then came a moment that humbled us: Volt and Blaze sold out. Completely. Watching runners pick up Volt for its clean, aerodynamic lines and Blaze for bold, secure grip was astonishing. Hearing,

“I’ll wear this tomorrow,”

reminded us these weren’t just sunglasses — they were companions for one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of the year.

Post-race check-ins were even more rewarding. Medal around their necks, runners shared how the frames “didn’t move once” or how they “forgot I was even wearing them.” Glare control, sweat resilience, secure fit — every detail mattered.

The weekend wasn’t just about eyewear. Hong Kong itself felt alive. Dance crews lit up stages, live music set the rhythm, school performances brought energy, families wandered booths, and supporters cheered before the starting gun. It was cultural, social, intensely human. The marathon isn’t just athletic; it’s community — shared nerves, ambition, and the collective heartbeat of a city moving together.

Marathon weekends remind us why Sunday Shades exists. Running is solitary, meditative, personal — but race weekends are communal. Listening to stories about 4 a.m. alarms, Bowen Road training, and comebacks after injury adds perspective. Sunglasses, simple to outsiders, become part of race-day ritual — a small but crucial companion. Every frame we design helps someone focus on their stride, manage sun and glare, and feel in control.

Hong Kong gave us more than weather and sales. It gave connection. Beyond photos, posts, and the website, there are real people who care as deeply about performance and detail as we do. Every conversation, smile, and piece of feedback reinforced that Sunday Shades isn’t just eyewear — it’s partnership, trust, and experience.

Every interaction had a story. One runner shared how Blaze helped her maintain focus through a blinding sunrise stretch. Another described a comeback after injury, highlighting Volt’s secure fit. Kids tried frames with playful exaggeration, laughter filling the booth. These moments showed that design touches life beyond optics.

Every question was a lesson. Lens coatings, frame weight, temple flexibility — each revealed priorities that feed directly back into product evolution. Frames are never finished; they’re refined through real-world engagement. Hong Kong became a massive, real-time laboratory for observation and inspiration.

Packing up, we felt gratitude. For runners trusting us with their race-day experience, for organizers making the weekend seamless, and for a city vibrating with energy for sport. Energized too — every marathon, expo, and conversation reminded us why Sunday Shades exists. Sketches, tweaks, and innovations bounced around our minds, sparked by what we observed and experienced.

Hong Kong gave us heart. We brought the shade. For a few extraordinary days, we were part of something bigger than a product launch. We were part of a community, a shared experience that runners and designers alike carry home. Every nod, smile, or frame slipping comfortably into place was a quiet connection between runner, city, and craft.

To everyone who stopped by, tried a pair, asked about lens technology, brought friends, or walked away with Volt or Blaze tucked into a race bag — thank you. Your support travels home not just in luggage, but in our inspiration, dedication, and design philosophy. You remind us that performance eyewear is a companion, a trusted element in someone’s pursuit of their best.

We left Hong Kong exhausted in the best way. Muscles tired, minds buzzing, hearts full. Already thinking of improvements, new designs, ways to deepen the connection between frames and runners. Every marathon weekend, every expo, every handshake teaches something new. Every piece of feedback, laugh, and anecdote shapes how we think about running, performance, and comfort. Sunday Shades is more than eyewear — it’s a partner on the path to every finish line.

Looking back, the Hong Kong Marathon weekend reminds us why we started. It’s not about selling sunglasses. It’s about experiences, supporting runners, celebrating achievement, and being part of a living community of athletes who push limits, share stories, and inspire. It’s about the subtle, intimate moments: nods, exclamations of delight, the “I forgot I was even wearing them” moments. Those are the wins that matter.

We leave Hong Kong with satisfaction, inspiration, and anticipation. Gratitude for the city, the runners, and the chance to be part of something dynamic. Inspiration to refine, test, and innovate. And anticipation for the next start line — the next heartbeat of a city, the next crowd of runners, the next chance to be part of a story bigger than ourselves. Hong Kong, you brought the heart. We brought the shade. We’ll see you at the next start line. ✨
